Editor’s Intro 23rd March 2007

March 26, 2007

Good Day Ladies and Gentlemen,

Clocks go forward for Spring this weekend, so time for some workspace tidying and edit suite file cleaning. You could even give yr camera lenses a good wipe. Then sit back and work out what you’re going to shoot in all the extra daylight.

‘Til next time

A fitting tribute.

March 26, 2007

Hull Film, organisers of the Hull International Short Film Festival, is poised to evolve over the coming months with the appointment of a new Director. Laurence Boyce, who has been involved with Hull Film since it’s inaugural event in 2000, will take over from previous director Esther Johnson in April.

Laurence Boyce has been involved with film for almost 10 years. After graduating with a BA in Film and Literature from the University Of Warwick, he has worked since 1999 as a programmer for the Leeds International Film Festival, where he was responsible for Shoot (the LIFF Short Film Programme) and UK Film Week. He has also organised the annual National Young Filmmakers Award Day, a part of the Leeds Young People’s Film Festival and contributed programmes to other organizations on a freelance basis. He is also an award-winning film journalist who has written for such respected magazines as Hotdog and Little White Lies as well as being the resident DVD reviewer at Netribution.co.uk and writer of the film section for Northern Exposure.

Hull International Short Film Festival Director Laurence Boyce said: “Having been involved with Hull Film since its inception, I’m looking forward to the opportunity to build on the success achieved by my predecessors. With the support of the board and myself, Hull Film is set to provide a dynamic programme of film on a year round basis for the people of the region whilst also continuing to stage a Film Festival of international quality and significance. Hull Film will aim to play a large part in helping to realise the potential of the city of Hull as not only a place for the exhibition of a diverse and wide ranging series of films but also as a hotbed of creative and talented filmmakers.” NFN says “Nice one, Laurence!”

Micro-Budget Feature Filmmaking workshops

March 26, 2007

Micro-Budget Feature Filmmaking (MBFF) is an intensive training programme that has been designed by North West Producers and Directors and the Media CoVE to give you the skills needed to produce a nano/micro-budget feature film that competes internationally, i.e. your film sells around the world and makes a profit. Quite simply, the 7-day workshop has been created for filmmakers that intend to make their feature films on a minimal budget without accessing traditional feature film finance routes.

The objectives of the MBFF workshops have been set in response to the substantial increase in nano/micro-budget feature films that are being shot, but not achieving any form of significant sale. The programme aims to: *develop your understanding of where nano/micro-budget feature films compete within the global business of feature film *build your skills necessary to produce and sell a nano/micro-budget feature film internationally MBFF is looking for ambitious filmmakers who are determined to become the ‘new guard’ in nano/micro-budget filmmaking.

Voice Actors wanted for short film, Manchester

March 26, 2007

I’m looking for “voice actors” for a short film I’m looking to make shortly. The film will have no physical actors but a series of voices coming out of the answerphone, male, female, young, old (all adults), and I’m looking for around 10 people to record for this.

Recording will take place in Didsbury, hopefully on a weekend in the near future. No payment I’m afraid, but a credit, food and drink whilst you attend, and bus fare – and a copy of the film when its completed. Ideally I’ll do it all on a single Saturday/sunday in April. The story that the film is based on (and basically the script) “What’s Happened to Larry?” is online here. Interested actors should get in contact via e-mail on adrian.slatcher@gmail.com Thanks, Adrian
